With usage and awareness of target date funds on the rise, this study examines the perceptions and expectations of target date funds among defined contribution plan participants who are both users and non-users of these funds.  Results of this study reveal current consumer attitudes and behaviors about target date funds, including reasons for using them. The goal of this research is to help support plan sponsors in the target date fund selection process by helping them align their choice with the preferences and attitudes of their plan populations.
