Critical Illness Insurance pays a lump-sum benefit upon the diagnosis of a covered disease or condition such as a heart attack or stroke on or after the coverage effective date. For employees, it’s a cost-effective way to help them protect against the financial impact of a covered illness.

Critical Illness/Specified Disease Insurance is a limited benefit policy. This is not health insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act. This is guaranteed issue coverage, whether it’s elected during the initial enrollment or in the future. Pre-existing conditions may apply.

  • Benefits can be used for any purpose: The Critical Illness Insurance benefit can be used for out-of-pocket medical and other expenses, including copays, deductibles, groceries, gas, utilities and more.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Hospital Indemnity Insurance pays a fixed daily benefit to an employee for a covered stay in a hospital* that occurs after their coverage becomes active. The daily confinement benefit amounts depend on the type of facility and the number of days of confinement.

Hospital Confinement Indemnity Insurance is a limited benefit policy. It is not health insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

  • Daily hospital confinement and admission
  • Daily Critical Care Unit (CCU) confinement and admission
  • Daily inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation facility benefits due to sickness, injury, substance use, and mental health conditions
  • Variable levels of newborn baby coverage available
  • Observation unit daily benefit
  • Confinement-related daily benefits (child care, lodging and pet boarding)
  • Non-confinement daily benefits (health system benefit, follow-up doctor visits, outpatient surgery visit, urgent care center visit and emergency room visit)
  • Transportation daily benefits (non-ambulance, group ambulance, air ambulance)

Only one type of admission or confinement benefit is payable per day. Other provisions and benefit maximums may apply. A complete description of benefits, limitations, exclusions and termination of coverage will be provided in the certificate of insurance and riders.

*The definition of "hospital" does not include an institution or any part of an institution used as: a hospice unit, including any bed designed as a hospice or swing bed; a convalescent home; a rest or nursing facility; a free-standing surgical center; an extended care facility; a skilled nursing facility; or a facility primarily affording custodial, educational care, or care for the aged; or care or treatment for persons suffering from mental health or substance use disorders. "Critical care unit" and "rehabilitation facility" are also defined in the certificate.

Voya Protect® is a robust supplemental health insurance solution that’s designed to complement traditional health insurance.
